About Nord Arrow Squeeze Cloths

A Squeeze Cloth for every purpose

Use your Squeeze Cloth instead of dish cloths, paper towels and sponges. Keep a stack ready to use, and throw them in the wash when you're done.

Be creative and imaginative. We love hearing how you use your Squeeze Cloths – let us know at info@nordarrow.nz.

Design

Colourful and stylish.

We design our Squeeze Cloths in New Zealand. They are then screen-printed in Sweden using water-based eco-friendly inks. We believe in beautiful homes where even cleaning equipment can be objects of design. Our cloth designs are modern, bold, colourful and playful.

Reusable

Rinse. Squeeze. Dry. Use again.

Squeeze Cloths are naturally antibacterial because they dry so quickly, which means no nasty dishcloth smell. And you can easily pop it in the dishwasher or washing machine.

Biodegradable

Your Squeeze Cloth is 100% biodegradable.

Our cloths are made with home compostable organic materials and printed with environmentally friendly inks. When your Squeeze Cloth needs to be replaced, dispose of it in your composting system. It takes approximately six to eight weeks to decompose.

Durable

70% cellulose | 30% cotton

The cellulose provides the wonderful absorbency and the cotton binds the material and gives it strength. Squeeze Cloths absorb 15 times their own weight. A large Squeeze Cloth will absorb 1 cup of liquid. Depending on how you use it, you can expect to get four to eight weeks of use out of your Squeeze Cloth.

Care

Use your squeeze cloth how you want to. To get the most out of it, we recommend storing it clean and dry when not in use, and cleaning it when needed. Please never wring your Squeeze Cloth – just gently squeeze!

Storing

When you’ve finished using your squeeze cloth for the day, follow these steps for the best results:

  1. Rinse in warm water and then in cold water
  2. Gently squeeze out excess water
  3. Hang your Squeeze Cloth over a tap or rack to dry

Cleaning

Clean your Squeeze Cloth on the top rack of your dishwasher, or in the washing machine on a 60 °C cycle. You can also soak your Squeeze Cloth in laundry whitener or a bleach solution overnight to restore its original colours. Please consider the environment when cleaning your Squeeze Cloth.

History

The Swedish dishcloth is one of Sweden’s most widely known and used inventions. It all began with a meat grinder in the kitchen of the inventor, civil engineer Curt Lindquist, in 1949. The goal was to develop a sponge with high absorbency that dries quickly.

Today, the materials and manufacturing process are highly modernised, and printed cloths adorn kitchens all around the world. Swedish cloths stepped out of anonymity into the spotlight in designer boutiques, museum gift galleries and upmarket homeware stores. It has been called a “miracle sponge cloth” – an everyday hero.

There are only two factories in the world producing sponge clothes according to the original Swedish patent from 1949. We guarantee and assure you that our Squeeze Cloths come from these two factories.

The Nord Arrow Story

Sweden (left), Arrowtown (right)

Nord Arrow is a partnership between Sweden in the north, and Arrowtown in New Zealand.

Arrowtown local Margaret George created Nord Arrow after living with family in Sweden. She discovered Swedish cloths and became infatuated with them, bringing different designs home as gifts for friends. When those friends started requesting more dishcloths from her next trip to Sweden, Margaret decided to bring Swedish cloths to share with all New Zealanders.

In 2019, Margaret spent a wonderfully informative day with the family-owned screen printing business on the coast of the Blekinge province in Sweden. She witnessed the full process starting with the illustrated graphic design through to the packaging of the finished product.

Nord Arrow was born after retuning back to Arrowtown, New Zealand. Margaret had experienced first-hand how this cool eco-friendly multi-function dishcloth was used and gifted in Sweden, and saw how it could be a part of stylish New Zealand homes.

About Margaret

Margaret George is an experienced retailer, and many Christchurchians will remember her from a previous life when she ran popular Merivale textiles business The Linen Cupboard. Margaret also operated Cashel Street jewellery store Roccabella until the Christchurch earthquakes. She still has a hand in Roccabella, which has reopened with Margaret’s daughter Vikki at the helm.

In all of her businesses, Margaret earned a reputation for high-quality products that are a little bit different from what everyone else is offering. Nord Arrow Squeeze Cloths are the natural continuation of that – quality products with unique and fun designs.
